| nationals was last weekend in boulder, colorado, and it was super awesome! :) colorado is such a beautiful state. we got to play with the rocky mountains in the background, the weather was gorgeous (60s-70s and sunny), and a ton of our alums/boys flew in to watch us play. brian, darlene's boy, brought his super nice camera, so some of the pictures that we got from nationals are really incredible.

day one was pool play, so we played ucsb(5), ottawa(4), and wake forest(9). ucsb came out a lot harder than we did in our first game (i think we were still finding our legs and our lungs -- boulder is 5344ft above sea level) and they took the game 15-4. we traded points with ottawa for much of the first half of that game, but they ran away with it in the second half and won 15-6. our game against wake forest was really really tight. it was the game we really really wanted to win because a win would have put us into prequarters. they actually were up 14-10 (games are to 15, win by 2, hard cap at 17) and we came back and made it 14-14. they threw zone for a lot of the game, and karen, catherine and i had a grand time throwing it through the cup because it was so big. it was awesome. we traded points again, so it became 15-15, then 16-16. wake ended up on offense for the last point, and i think it was a no-turnover point, so they won it 17-16.
(jin and darlene, our amazing coaches)

we took a bunch of group shots, and here's one after day one. nancy bought last minute tickets from the bay area to come watch us (she bought them wednesday night, and showed up on friday) and she only stayed for the day so we had to get a picture with her. top row are the alums, and the bottom row are the current players who have played with the alums. :D

(my back started acting up, especially during day 2, so cathy would massage/icy hot my back in between games/when i was on the sideline. she's giving me royal treatment here -- i'm wearing her sunglasses because the sun was so bright, i'm on the phone with mike, and she's giving me a back massage! :D )
we started off day two against the helpful corn, maryland's ultimate
team. that team sang the most annoying song ever (the helpful corn
song that they made up) and they would sing it after every single point
that they scored. it was terrible. we also played michigan state and
oregon, and i don't remember very much from those games, but they were
fun to play but we didn't win. in the last half of the game against
oregon, we started calling set lines, such as the asian line, the white
line (i don't remember what team veena, our one indian player, played
on), the rookie line, the grad student line, the undergrad line, the
odd course number line, the even course number line, and the graduating
line. it was a super fun way to finish the season, and i'm really
going to miss this team a lot.
sMITe 07-08, check out that background! :)
sMITe plus alums plus boys :) the teen boy squad (boys minus brian plus suzanne) the three of us started our ultimate careers together, and finished it together! :) yay for doris and erika!
the sMITe graduates. jenny is out of eligibility, doris, catherine, and erika are graduating with their masters, i'm graduating with my bachelors, and adele will be done with her architecture masters in december.
we drew our captains at the 5ultimate booth :)
laura invited the team to her house for dinner after day two. her house is super nice, and the only house that i've ever seen with solar panels, which they use to heat the water. i also managed to drive the car into a ditch when i tried to park the car. :(
only the finals are played on day three. on the men's side, wisconsin beat florida, and on the women's side, ubc beat ucsb. after watching the finals, the group of people that were left (a lot of the team left on saturday, day two) went to the tea house for dinner, and liver, shan, trisha and i flew home that night on the same flight. and thus concludes nationals! :)
the alums that remained on day 3 meryl, cathy and i at the tea house
group shot at laura's before leaving for the airport

finals week was last week and now i'm done! i had a take home final on tuesday, and a real final on thursday. and now i'm done!!!! :D now i get two weeks for playing, and i walk on june 6 :)
